William Leroy Parson

William Leroy Parson, 75, of Shade Gap, PA, died Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at MedStar Washington Hospital, Washington, D.C.

Born on April 3, 1947 in Spring Run, PA, he was the son of the late Herbert L. and Ruth M. (Krause) Parson.  He was united in marriage to Mary C. Smith on February 13, 1966.  Mrs. Parson survives at home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children Christina Parson and companion Bill Seibert, Blairs Mills, PA, Kenny Parson and wife Jennifer, Shade Gap, PA, Richard Parson and wife Shelby, Shade Gap, PA, Sydney Parson and wife Hope, St. Thomas, PA, Timothy Parson and wife Tammy, Harrisburg, PA, Kathleen Yohn and husband Justin, Neelyton, PA and Bernice Parson and companion Tom Winnick, Neelyton, PA.  There are 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

One sister, Donna Rae Parson and companion Paul Long, survive of Shade Gap, PA.

Mr. Parson was preceded in death by an infant brother.

He was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Shade Gap, PA and the Shade Gap Lions Club.

During his lifetime, he retired as a meat cutter from Ft. Loudon Grocery and previously worked at Paul Booher’s grocery store in Orbisonia.  Along with his wife Mary, they operated the Shade Gap Senior Center on Wednesdays and Thursdays.  He was well-known and cared for the local community and always was there to lend a helping hand.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 2, 2023 at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, 565 Ridgley St., Orbisonia, PA with Pastor Brian Smith officiating.  Interment will be at Byron Run Cemetery, RD, Orbisonia, PA.  Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
