Walter R. Aurant

Walter R. Aurant, 93, of Williamsburg, PA, died Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Tyrone Hospital. 

Born February 23, 1928 at Ganister, PA, he was a son of the late Walter Aurant and Alice (Yingling) Bookhammer and a stepson of the late Wilson Bookhammer. He was first married to the former Leda Mountain,who preceded in death. He then married the former Sara Enyeart who preceded in death and later married the former Jean (James) Dell on June 9, 1984 and she preceded in death on February 7, 2000.

He is survived by three children, Diana Mayfield of Dublin, TX, Jacup Aurant and wife Linda of Saxton, PA and Lawrence Aurant and wife Jan of Huntingdon, PA and two step daughters, Betty Jean Price and husband Denny of Hershey, PA and Marcy Ann Rohrer and husband Bill of Shade Gap, PA. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren and the following siblings, Marjorie Novander of Illinois, George Bookhammer, Darlene Simmons, Alma Estep, Eileen Nickel and Donald Bookhammer, all of Williamsburg, Ronald Bookhammer of Roaring Spring, PA, Dorothy DuBois and David Bookhammer, both of Williamsburg. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard Bookhammer and Thomas Bookhammer. 

He was a member of the Aughwick Germany Valley Church of the Brethren, Shirleysburg, PA and for the majority of his life he attended the Calvary Independent Baptist Church, Huntingdon, PA. 

He retired in 1993 from the former Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, PA after 6 years service. Prior to that he was employed at Strickler’s Dairy, Huntingdon, PA for 15 years, McClain Gas and Electric, Huntingdon, PA for 10 years and the Pennsylvania Railroad for 8 years.

Mr. Aurant was a veteran of the Pennsylvania National Guard.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at the Calvary Independent Baptist Church, 300 Standing Stone Ave., Huntingdon, PA. Interment will be made at Germany Valley Cemetery, Shirleysburg, PA. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
