Tex Riley Dunbar, born August 2,1946 went to his heavenly home on February 3, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur “Preston” and Mary (Adams) Dunbar, two brothers Edward Dunbar and Harry (Eva) Dunbar and his two sisters Hilda (Jesse) Scruggs and Alice (Ron) Goodyear. One other family member was waiting for her Grandad in heaven – his granddaughter, Shannon Lynn Bennett.
Tex is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Vickie Lynn (Cooper) Dunbar, his daughter Gretchen and her husband Deron Bennett, daughter Jennifer and husband Kim Kauffman, granddaughter Errin (Bennett) Milich and husband Garrett, grandson Riley Myers, granddaughter Robyn (Bennett) Henson and husband Jonathan “JJ” Henson, granddaughter Destinie Myers, and Shannon’s partner, Aaron Robinson. Over the past year Tex was also blessed with two great-granddaughters, Sonny Isabelle Robinson and Opal Lynn Milich. He also had an extended family in step-granddaughter Tausha Kauffman, her partner David Campbell and their sons Wyatt and Hayden.
Tex was proud to be an American and served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969, honorably discharged at the rank of Second Lieutenant. Post separation, he became a Master Electrician, but soon felt called into the ministry to share his love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. After graduating from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA – he became the Pastor at Cromwell United Bible Church in Three Springs, PA. Tex had a genuine love of people, especially children, prompting him to start an annual summer camp at Camp Mantowagon in Saxton, PA. His ministry touched many in the local community and he is rejoicing in heaven today with many of the church members that have gone on before him.
Given declines in health, Tex was admitted to the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home in 2024. He and the family were blessed by the excellent medical care he received and the sweet spirit of his case manager, the nurses and professionals in the facility – many providing both spiritual and emotional support to both Tex and Vickie throughout the past two years.
Above all, Tex loved his family who will be receiving friends on Saturday, February 7th from 10:00am – 12:00pm with a Celebration of Life service to follow at noon at the Martin R Brown Funeral Home, 565 Ridgley St., Orbisonia, PA. A private interment will follow in the coming weeks.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to the Cromwell United Bible Church to further his mission of sharing the gospel with those in the local community by supporting the children’s ministry and annual summer camp activities.
