Mary Elizabeth (McMullen) Ansell, age 82, of Fairview Church Road, Mapleton, PA, passed away Sunday, May 9 2021 at her home after an extended illness and complications from Covid-19.
Born June 21, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Jimison and Margaret (Zitsch) McMullen.
Mary was united in marriage to her husband Carl Elmer Ansell for 44 years. Mr. Ansell preceded her in death in 2002.
She was married a second time to Thomas Redinger who preceded her in death in 2012.
Mrs. Ansell is survived by her five children with Carl, son George Ansell and wife Katherine of Mapleton Depot, PA; daughter Sheryl Oswald and husband Alex of Huntingdon,PA; daughter Susan Ansell of White, GA; daughter Kathy Lynn Crowley and husband Michael of Woodstock, GA; and son Gary Ansell and wife Karen of Huntingdon, PA.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Virginia Gossard, Christina Ansell, Tammy Swanger, Shaun Ansell, John William Fecich, Paige Crowley Jeffers, Courtney Booher, and Dakota Ansell, eight great grandchildren; Marlena Metzner, Kirk Metzner, Isabella Ansell, Kyler Ansell, Braxton Jeffers, Hudson Jeffers, Haydn Moyer, Paisley Booher, and 1 great great grandchild, Scarlett Koons. Siblings John McMullen, Marvin McMullen, Charles McMullen, Ellen Hockenberry, Joyce Middaugh and Larry McMullen also survive.
She was preceded in death by siblings, William McMullen, Patricia Beckenbaugh, Dorisetta Hockenberry and James McMullen.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She enjoyed spending time in her garden and watching the wildlife on her farm. She was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football fan, but only when they were winning.
In her later years, she enjoyed watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and was always the first to win.
She loved spending time with her family, particularly the children, and was very fond of her niece Irene Ansell who made her feel special by sending her cards at every holiday and calling her often.
Her family would like to thank the team of UPMC Family Hospice (Samantha, Alley, Angie, Karen, Pastor Rich and Dr. Amy Swindell) for all their caring support, as well as Mary's personal
caregiver, Mrs. Tammy Gutshall.
At Mrs. Ansell's request, there will be no viewing or funeral.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be a private memorial service with her immediate family at a later date.
Interment will be at the Fairview Evangelical Church Cemetery in Three Springs, PA beside her beloved husband Carl.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, American Heart Association, or St. Jude's Childrens Hospital.
