Marie Elizabeth (Whitsel) Shade, 72, formerly of McConnellsburg, PA and more recently a resident of Viva Senior Living, Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

Born on November 12, 1953 in Huntingdon, PA and later raised in the Three Springs, PA area, she was the daughter of the late Fern and Verna (Shaw) Whitsel.  She was united in marriage to Richard Shade on September 1, 1979.  Mr. Shade survives of McConnellsburg, PA.

She is survived by daughter Camille Whitsel (Mark Viener), granddaughters Ava Viener (Chris Brady) and Emma Viener and great-granddaughter Daisy Elizabeth Brady.

Sister Evelyn Peterson (Ronald) and brother Douglas Whitsel also survive.

Mrs. Shade was a graduate of Southern Huntingdon County High School - Class of 1971.

During her lifetime, she worked at Arrow Shirt Factory, Huntingdon, PA right out of high school, then Rob-New-Van sewing factory, Shade Gap, PA and then Walmart, Chambersburg, PA

Marie was an avid animal lover, especially her cats.  She loved her kitties.  The most important thing in her life was spending time with her grandchildren.  Nothing ranked higher.

Rich and Marie lived together 20 years in the Shade Gap area and 23 years in the McConnellsburg area.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Viva Senior Living, Hagerstown, MD, where Marie spent the last 3 years.  The staff took very good care of her.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 1, 2026 at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, 565 Ridgley Street, Orbisonia, PA with Rev. Jack Emerick officiating.  Interment will be at Clear Ridge Cemetery, Hustontown, PA.  Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Huntingdon County Humane Society, 11371 School House Hollow Rd, Huntingdon, PA 16652.
