Lucinda Malott Obituary

Lucinda Jean Malott, 91, of Orbisonia, went to be with The Lord on April 18, 2020, peacefully in her home with family by her side.  

Born October 4, 1928, in Rockhill Furnace, PA, Lucinda was the daughter of the late Ralph Browning Houck and Laura Swonger Houck.  

Lucinda was the last surviving member of her family.  She was preceded in death by brothers Ralph E., Joseph D. (infant), N. Ray, Glenn R., William S., Harry E. Houck, and sisters Ruth Davidson and Alice Mae Senft.  

She was previously married to Enver W. Painter, Sr., then married Rolland E. Malott on November 5, 1960 at the Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, Arkansas.  She is survived by her husband and children: Enver W. Painter, Jr. and wife Ruby of Honolulu, HI, Cheryl Lyn Jacobs and husband James William of Richmond, VA, Laura Jean Dorsey of Huntingdon, PA, Nanette Thomas and husband Kirk of Orbisonia.  Also, stepchildren Dennis Malott and wife Barbara of Rincon, GA, Rhonda Stafford, Midway, GA, and Lynn Woods, Savannah, GA. Lucinda had 12 grandchildren: Jennifer Lake, Gala Bowdler, Yeree Woo Bidey, Yuree Painter Shiao, Cassandra Clark, Benjamin Thomas, Andrew Malott, Kelsey Brant, Christina Morton, William Stafford, Alan Stafford and Brittany Woods, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.   She was also preceded in death by stepson, Dallas Malott of St. Cloud, FL, grandson Dennis Malott, Jr and granddaughter, Victoria Woods.  

Lucinda was valedictorian of the Orbisonia High School Class of 1946 and later attended business school in Little Rock, Arkansas.  She worked in the bookkeeping department of the Little Rock AFB Exchange and the NCO Club of Kindley Air Force Base, Bermuda; was a bookkeeper for the Sears, Roebuck Credit Department in both Dover, DE and Rapid City, SD.  She served as secretary to the custodian of the Clark Air Force Base NCO Club in the Philippines and later worked for her brothers at Houck’s, Inc. in Orbisonia, PA until the time of her retirement.  

She was a member of the Orbisonia Presbyterian Church where she was an elder, youth Sunday school teacher, and chairman of the fellowship committee.  She was a member of the SHC Community Choir from 1976-2002. She served as treasurer of the Woodland Retirement Auxiliary from its beginning in 1985-2010.  She was president of the Southern Huntingdon County Alumni Association in 1987 and served as treasurer of this organization from 1990 through 2009. She served as secretary for the Huntingdon County Arts Festival on two occasions this event was held in the twin boroughs of Orbisonia and Rockhill Furnace.  She was a member of the Lower Huntingdon County Friends of the Library and Orbisonia-Rockhill Furnace Historical Society. She was a past member of the Southern Huntingdon County BPW and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.  

Lucinda enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, playing golf, raising flowers, reading, crossword puzzles, and cooking for her family members and friends.  She has been under the care of UPMC/Family Hospice since February, 2019. The family wishes to thank all of her nurses and caregivers for the wonderful, loving care she has been given.  

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
