Kay Dixon Smith Obituary

Kay Marion Krugh Dixon Smith 81, of Loop Road, McVeytown passed away June 28, 2021 at her home.    Born in Blacklog Valley, Orbisonia, on March 7, 1940, she was the daughter of the late William Bernard “Pug” Krugh and Catharine E. (Smith) Krugh.  Two brothers survive, Dr. William D. Krugh and wife Nancy of Harrisburg and Otto W. Krugh and wife JoAnn of Huntingdon along with nieces and nephews, Amanda Krugh Hope and husband Brian, Christopher Krugh and wife Anna, Catharine Krugh, and Andy Krugh and wife Halima.   

Kay’s first marriage was to the late Edgar W. Dixon in 1962.  Edgar preceded her in passing.  Kay and Edgar had one son, Timothy L. Dixon.  Tim and wife Nicole have a daughter, Willow, who is Kay’s pride and joy.  They reside in Mechanicsburg, PA.  On May 31, 2008, Kay married Walter W. “Mike” Smith, who survives at their home in Atkinson Mills, west of McVeytown, PA.  Upon marrying Walter, Kay inherited a new and equally loving family, Michael J. Smith and wife Fran and their two children, Michael (Skip) Jr and Shannon.  Michael and wife Kati have two sons, Trent and Mitch.  Shannon has a daughter, Stella.  All reside in the Atkinson Mill’s area.   Ken A. Smith and wife Debra also of the Atkinson Mill’s area have a daughter, Bridgette along with husband Michael Ceraul and their children, Claire and Bennett who reside in Pen Argyl, PA.   Debra L.  married to Fred Rhodes, also of Atkinson Mill’s have two sons, Lukas and Jesse along with wife Bekah.   The youngest son, Rodney L. and wife Kristene live in Sewickley, PA and have two children, Kylie and Garrett. 

Kay was a 1958 graduate of Orbisonia High School and a 1960 graduate of Empire Beauty School of Lewistown.  She worked for Sophia Krut’s Beauty Shop in Mount Union for two years before opening her own salon in Orbisonia and eventually in Rockhill Furnace for 40 years.  She loved her work and her patrons.   

Kay attended the Wayne United Methodist Church and loved her church family. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 2, 2021 at the Martin R Brown Funeral Home,  565 Ridgley St., Orbisonia, PA with Pastor Stephen Rynkewitz officiating. Interment will be made at Shope Cemetery, Blacklog Valley Road, Orbisonia. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne United Methodist Church, 46 Millers Quarry Road, McVeytown, PA 17051 or to a charity of one’s choice.
