Joseph H. Newman, Sr.

Joseph H. Newman, Sr., better known as “Surfer Joe”, 86, of Mt. Union, PA, died Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Penn Highlands Huntingdon.

Born December 14, 1933 at Mt. Union, PA, he was a son of the late George and Helen (Suter) Hocker. 

He is survived by three children, Joseph H. Newman, Jr. and George Newman, both of RD, Three Springs, PA and Angie Kane of Mt. Union, PA, five grandchildren, Cassie Kane, Trenton Kane, Jimmy Kane, Courtney Clever and Megan Walls and two half siblings, Merrill Hocker of Mt. Union, PA and Bonnie Fleck of Kistler, PA. Two half brothers, Charles Hocker and John Hocker and two half sisters, Thelma Shore and Alphahretta Shore, preceded in death.

Mr. Newman was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Mt. Union, PA. 

During his life he was employed as a truck driver and a municipal police officer.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 31, 2020 at Haven Rest Memorial Park, Croghan Pike, Shirleysburg, PA with Rev. Ed Seeley officiating.
