John H. Smith

John H. Smith, 78, of Shirleysburg, PA passed peacefully into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital, Lewistown, PA.

Born on December 28, 1943 in Blacklog Valley, PA, he was the son of the late John H. and Hazel (Barkley) Smith.  He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary (Varner) and his four children -  Pam Frehn and husband Gary, John Smith, Jr. and wife Michele, Debra Seilhamer and husband Daniel and Beth Worthy and husband Eugene “Buck”.  Nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and siblings Margaret “Margie” Longnecker, Mary Parsons, Mike Smith and Philip Smith also survive.

Siblings Rhetta Graham, Sidney Smith and Bernard Smith preceded him in death.

He was a member of the first class to graduate of SHCHS in 1962.

Mr. Smith worked many years alongside his brothers and retired from Smith Bros. Sawmill.  

He was an avid hunter and fisher.  He enjoyed spending time at his camp with his son and brothers and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 4, 2022 at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, 565 Ridgley Street, Orbisonia, PA with Pastor Brian Smith officiating.  Interment will be made privately at Byron Run Cemetery, Orbisonia, PA.
