Jean Shultz Obituary

Jean Marie (Kidd) Shultz, 82, went to be with the Lord on January 18, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Mooresville, NC, after a brief battle with cancer.

Jean Marie was born on May 30th, 1938, in Mount Union, PA, to Russell I. and Anna P. Kidd. She was blessed to live the majority of her life on Garber Street in Mount Union, where she was born and raised. In her later years, she divided her time between her home in Pennsylvania and that of her daughter in North Carolina. Previously, Jean co-owned Shultz Exxon Service with her husband Bill Shultz. Bill, the love of her life, preceded her in death in 1983. She remained widowed for 37 years. Bill and Jean were the parents of one daughter, Connie Shultz Russell, who survives in Mooresville, NC, with her husband Mike (Mickey) Russell and son Austin.

Also known as “Bam,” Jean’s favorite role was that of mother and grandmother. She was the happiest while in the company of her daughter and beloved son in law Mickey, who was like a son to her. Her most special bond was with her grandson Austin, her pride and joy. She lived for her family. Jean also enjoyed gardening, music, traveling with Connie, shopping and watching football. She was a lifelong fan of both the Nittany Lions and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jean never missed the chance to watch the NASCAR race in order to cheer for her son in law’s race team, as of late Stewart-Haas Racing. A friend to all, she loved visiting with neighbors on her front porch in the summer. A 1956 graduate of Captain Jack High School, Jean was also a devout Christian and a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Union.

One of four children, Jean was preceded in death by her sister Connie (Kidd) Brumbaugh and her brother John Walter (Bud) Kidd. She is survived by her brother Herbert R. Kidd and his wife, Marjorie (Marge) Kidd, of Mount Union. Herb and Marge were very close to Jean. She also remained a valued part of the Shultz family, attending reunions and treasuring time with her brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews. Jean is also survived by her sister’s children, niece Evelyn Jean (Brumbaugh) Coder, nephews Craig Brumbaugh and David Brumbaugh, many beloved great nieces and nephews, and a host of dear friends and neighbors. A humble soul and a caring listener, Jean Marie will be deeply missed by all who shared her company.

Jean will be laid to rest with Bill in the Mount Union Cemetery in Pennsylvania. A graveside service will be held at 2pm on January 23rd, 2021.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, 177 S. Division St., Mount Union, PA  17066, or the First Presbyterian Church, 249 W. McLelland Ave, Mooresville, NC  28115.
