Irene B. Miller

Irene B. Miller, 90, of Three Springs, PA died on Friday May 3, 2024, unexpectedly at the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg PA.  Irene was born January 24, 1934, in Three Springs, to the late Charles Roy Baker and Lillian (Park) Baker.  She was united in marriage to Stanley L. Miller of Three Springs PA on June 18, 1954, at the Calvary Independent Baptist Church of Saltillo PA.  Mr. Miller preceded his wife in death on April 20, 1987.

Irene is survived by her son, Dr. Allen S. Miller and wife Melody J. Miller of Three Springs PA.  She is also survived by her granddaughter Mrs. Sherie M. Higgins and husband Mr. Jonathan Higgins from Garnet Valley PA, as well as two great grandchildren Alicia and Andrew Higgins.  She was preceded in death by her daughter Ms. Judy I. Miller on October 7, 2001.  Irene is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Norma L. Newman of Chambersburg PA.  Her brother, Edwin Baker, preceded her in death.

Irene was a 1951 graduate of Saltillo High School, where she starred on the school’s championship girls basketball team.  During her life Mrs. Miller was employed as a key punch operator at Swigart Associates, Inc., in Huntingdon PA, was a homemaker during her cherished child rearing years, and served as the Clay Township tax collector for many years where she met and embraced the people of her community.  

She was a member of the Calvary Independent Baptist Church of Saltillo, an avid reader of the Bible, and taught many children’s classes there through the years, sharing the Good News of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  

Irene was a remarkable individual who lived a fulfilling life focused on family and faith.  Her love for her family, her adventures in travel with them, her love of painting and gardening, and her dedication to designing and maintaining a beautiful home, all speak to her artistic talents and creativity.  Her appreciation for literature in her later years fed her curiosity and desire for lifelong learning.  It is evident that Irene’s kindness and love left a lasting impact on all those that knew her, making her a cherished presence in the lives of so many.

A funeral service will be held at Calvary Independent Baptist Church, 20258 Main St., Saltillo PA 17253 on Saturday May 11, 2024 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Dan Long officiating.  Interment will be made at the Three Springs Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church from 11:00 AM until the time of the service on Saturday.
