Geraldine Thomas Obituary

Geraldine Thomas, 93, of Uttley Street, Saltillo, PA died Saturday, June 26, 2021 at the Fulton County Medical Center - Long Term Care Unit, McConnellsburg, PA.

Born on March 24, 1928 in Saltillo, PA, she was the daughter of the late Vincent G. and Viola (Hooper) Senft.  She was united in marriage to Ned W. Thomas on June 25, 1947.  Mr. Thomas preceded in death on December 13, 1984.

Mrs. Thomas always resided on Uttley Street, being born and raised at one end of the street to being married and raising a family on the other end of the street.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Varner and Kay Stake and husband Donald, all of Saltillo, PA.  Four granddaughters, Amy Varner, Jill Varner, Danielle Stake Morgan and husband Sean and Jennifer Stake Baker and husband Daryl survive.  Four great-grandsons Cameron Morgan, Andrew Baker, Levi Morgan and Ethan Baker also survive.

Four siblings Eugene Senft, Betty Lane, Frances Sterret and Kenton Senft preceded in death.

Mrs. Thomas was the salutatorian of the Saltillo High School Class of 1946.  While in high school, she played on the basketball team.  Throughout the years, she stayed close to her classmates and helped plan class reunions.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Saltillo, Saltillo, PA where she was a Deaconess, Trustee, belonged to the women’s mission group, Helping Hands Society and was a prayer partner with Hazel Hershey.  She served as president of the Shirley Home Auxiliary, organized the Girl Scouts of Saltillo, spent time volunteering as a seamstress at the former Woodland Retirement Center (now Embassy of Woodland Park), was a member of the Marry & Join Us Club, spent 20 years in the RSVP Club of Huntingdon County and was a member of the Three Springs Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary.

During her lifetime, Mrs. Thomas was employed as a seamstress at Sagner, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.  Prior to that, she had spent time working at her husband and brother-in-law’s store, Thomas Bros. General Store, Saltillo, PA, and also worked in the meat department of the former Stinson’s Market and Fieldview Market, both of Three Springs, PA.

She devoted her life to being a caretaker to her family and friends throughout the community.  Her legacy of kindness includes sewing useful items such as toys, quilts and masks and making homemade baked goods for others.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on June 30, 2021 at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, 565 Ridgley Street, Orbisonia, PA with Pastor Rex Shope officiating.  Interment will be made at Saltillo Cemetery, Saltillo, PA.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 - 9 PM Tuesday evening and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shirley Home Auxiliary, PO Box 142, Saltillo, PA 17253 and Grane Hospice, 115 Union Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602.
