Flora M. Parsons

Flora Margaret Parsons, 90, of Shade Gap, PA, went to be with the Lord at her home, surrounded by her family, after an extended illness.

Born February 1, 1929 in Wood Township of Coles Valley, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Marie (Walker) Watkins. She was united in marriage to Chester Parsons October 13, 1950 at the United Brethren Church, Portage, PA. Mr. Parsons preceded in death July 4, 2018.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane Neihart and husband Keith of Alexandria, VA, her sons, Glenn Parsons and wife Penny of Blairs Mills, PA and Joe Parsons of Shade Gap, PA, four grandchildren, Kristina Parsons, Stacy Hartman, Marie Neihart and Caleb Parsons, five great grandchildren, Raven, Kadin and Xena Moore, Lauren and Dalton Hartman and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her half brother, Darryl Watkins and her step sister, Violet Benson.

She attended a one room school in Coles Valley and graduated from Robertsdale High School in 1948. Upon graduation she began her career working as a kitchen assistant at Juniata College. Mrs. Parsons was a homemaker all her life.

She thoroughly enjoyed helping her family and friends that needed assistance. Upon her retirement, she, along with her husband, volunteered with Men with Vision work teams under World Gospel Mission. She had volunteered in Bolivia, Argentina, Paraguay, Mexico, Honduras, Texas, California, Kentucky and Indiana. She was one of God’s special servants.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, mom and grandmother with a servant’s heart to all. She also enjoyed reading her Bible and attending many family, church and community functions.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 14, 2019 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 11691 Circle St., Shade Gap, PA with Pastors James Barton and Richard Fluke officiating. Interment will be made at Salem Cemetery, RD, Blairs Mills, PA. Friends may call at the church 6 - 8 PM Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday.
