DeVona K. Black

DeVona K. Black, 91, of McKendree Church Road, Three Springs, PA, died Friday, July 11, 2025 at her home.

Born March 21, 1934 at Burnt Cabins, PA, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Goldie (Bowman) Shoop. She was united in marriage to William J. “Wilk” Black on December 23, 1955 at the Burnt Cabins Methodist Church. Mr. Black preceded in death on February 16, 2022.

She is survived by three children, Joseph Black and wife Susan of Camp Hill, PA, Mark Black and wife Mary Ellen of Pittsburgh, PA and Mary Ruth (Black) Kimmel and husband Joel of Hagerstown, MD. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Emily Babaian, Clayton Black, Cody Black, Aleah Aaron, Zachary Kimmel and Lilah Kimmel and four great grandchildren, Brooks Aaron, Brody Black, Roman Black and Margot Aaron. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Genevieve Houck, Delores Whitt and Glorynne Sharp and two brothers, McFern Shoop and Alfred Shoop.

Mrs. Black was a member of the Orbisonia United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School class and served as a Sunday School teacher, pianist and organist. 

She was also a member of the auxiliary of Embassy of Woodland Park, Orbisonia, PA. 

Mrs. Black loved playing the piano and also enjoyed playing the saxophone and guitar. 

She graduated from Empire Beauty School, Lewistown, PA. For many years she owned and operated DeVona Black’s Beauty Shop, Three Springs, and was also employed as a hairdresser at Embassy of Woodland Park.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 19, 2025 at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, 565 Ridgley St., Orbisonia, PA with Rev. Dennis Hunsinger officiating. Interment will be made at Cherry Grove Cemetery, Three Springs, PA. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
