Bonnie Burkett Obituary

Bonnie Eileen (Cisney) Burkett’s story was shaped by faith, home, and the quiet moments of everyday life.

Bonnie passed away on February 21, 2026, at 8:53 p.m. at Laurel Lakes Rehab and Wellness Center in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

She was born on May 19, 1947, in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, to Cecil C. and Dora Emogene (Robinson) Cisney. She grew up in Huntingdon County and later moved to Greencastle, Pennsylvania, where she and her husband, Bill, built a quiet, simple home together.

Faith was an important part of who she was. Bonnie found comfort in God’s presence and enjoyed watching church online. She often listened to sermons and carefully recorded notes in her journals. Her notebooks were filled with Bible verses, sermon reflections, recipes, grocery lists, words of encouragement, and daily entries that preserved the small details of her days. Writing became a meaningful way for her to document her world.

Her favorite Bible verse was Isaiah 46:4 (New Living Translation):

“I will be your God throughout your lifetime, until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.”

Bonnie appreciated simple pleasures: raisin-filled cookies, tending her flowers (especially hollyhocks), and watching nature and the mountains from her window. She found comfort in familiar surroundings and quiet observation.

Among her treasured memories was a train journey across the United States to Oregon, an adventure that remained special to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil C. and Dora Emogene Cisney; her husband, George “Bill” Burkett; and one brother, Allen Cisney.

She is survived by her son, Fawnell Burkett (Tracey) of Olivet, South Dakota; her brother, Danny Cisney (Carol); her grandchildren Austin, Kia, Fawn, Brandon, Ethan, Seth, and Ashlyn; and her great-grandchildren Isabella, Gracie, Dallas, and Brooks.

Graveside services will be held on February 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Shade Gap, Pennsylvania with Pastor Jacob Beck officiating.

Bonnie will be remembered for her faith, her strength, and the simple beauty she found in everyday living. Her legacy continues through her family and the simple moments she cherished. May her story be a quiet reminder that there is beauty in ordinary days and comfort in the steady presence of faith.
