Betty J. (Bowman) Shope Baker

Betty J. Shope Baker, 89, formerly of Saltillo, PA and more recently Orbisonia, PA, died Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at Embassy of Woodland Park, Orbisonia, PA.

Born on December 4, 1933 in Huntingdon, PA, she was the daughter of the late Milton and Nora (Witters) Bowman.  She was united in marriage to Edward Shope in 1954.  Mr. Shope preceded in death in September of 1970.  She later married Edwin Baker in 1999.  Mr. Baker preceded in death on January 17, 2018.

She is survived by children Debra Gilliland and husband Barry, Three Springs, PA, Edward M. Shope and wife Kim, Altoona, PA, Jeffrey Shope and wife Penny, Three Springs, PA and Rex Shope and wife Valerie, Three Springs, PA.  Nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive.

Siblings Peggy Whetstone and Jesse Witters preceded in death.

She was a former member of the Saltillo United Methodist Church, Saltillo, PA and later attended the First Baptist Church Saltillo, Saltillo, PA.

Mrs. Baker was a graduate of Saltillo High School - Class of 1952.

During her lifetime, she loved to attend her grandchildren’s sporting events and traveling to Florida and to the western United States.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 13, 2023 at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, 565 Ridgley St., Orbisonia, PA with Pastor Rex Shope officiating.  Interment will be at Saltillo Cemetery, Saltillo, PA.  Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
